This will be my first blog of many to come! I have always been one to enjoy expressing my thoughts in words... whether talking or writing :) So I hope all who read this will enjoy reading it as much as I will enjoy writing it!
Our family is much like any other typical Southern Republican American family. We live in Montgomery, AL and currently reside in an apartment. We still have ownership of a house in Andalusia, AL which we must sell in order to purchase a home here. With the way the market is going, that may take a while! Allow me to introduce you to each member of our family...
My name is Melissa McCord Amos. I'm a 25 year old wife, mother, daughter, granddaughter, neice, sister, aunt, and friend. I graduated from Andalusia High School in May 2000 and then went on to attend Troy University (then Troy State University). I was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority and served as Miss Troy University. I graduated from Troy in May 2004 with a degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Psychology. In September 2005 I met my wonderul husband and we married on June 24, 2006. In July 2007 we welcomed a son, Brooks, who is the absolute love of my life!! I am currently a stay at home mom and love my "job". I can't say that every moment as a stay at home mom is wonderful but it is very fufulling! I can't imagine not being here for all the little moments with my son. In my spare time, which is few and far between, I enjoy photography, painting, reading, watching movies, and baseball. However, my most favorite hobby of all is scrapbooking. One might say I am obsessed!! I am constantly trying new techniques and most enjoy scrapbooking for Brooks. I even have my own scrapbook room (which should be an extra room for us but I sort of "stole" it). Scrapbooking is a way for me to escape and do something I truly enjoy all while perserving our memories forever. Wow, that sounded somewhat like a commercial :) I love to travel and enjoy going to the beach and the lake. I think Chris and I would live at the beach if it was possible. I want to go to Rome, Paris, London... and anywhere else where I can take great pictures. I love sports and am almost a guy when it comes to watching sports on TV. I can rival almost any man on my knowledge of baseball! I hate "girly" movies and truly believe they are the most predictable things in life. Needless to say, I enjoy watching movies that are action filled, thrilling, and maybe even a little scary. I also am a big believer in good causes. In October I will participate an event called The 3 Day, which is a 60 mile walk for Breast Cancer awareness. I'm very nervous about walking a distance that intense but am certainly up for a challenge. I enjoy working out but can't seem to make myself do it all the time. Having a goal this large has encouraged me to work out and given me something to reach for. My faith is very important to me and I strive to keep Christ first in my life. We attend Frazer UMC in Montgomery and love our Sunday School class, Faithful Families. We have met some wonderful friends while attending Frazer.
Chris, my husband, is a 37 year old father, son, nephew, uncle, friend, and most importantly soldier. He graduated from Charles Henderson High School in 1988 and then went on to attend Troy University. After high school graduation he attended basic training for the National Guard and during college was deployed to Operation Desert Storm. He played as a catcher for the Troy University Baseball team and was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Chris graduated from Troy in May 1995 with a degree in Marketing. Chris worked for Regions Bank and then went to work for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama. He was deployed again in Operation Iraqi Freedom and returned in July 2005. After he returned and while still working for BCBS, he met me! We were introduced by his then secretary, Gina Woodall. What a matchmaker she turned out to be!! In December 2006, Chris took a job in Montgomery, AL and the National Guard Joint Force Headquarters and is currently employed full time with the National Guard. He gets much satisfaction out of his job and loves being a soldier. In his spare time, Chris enjoys reading, running and exercising, being outdoors, football, and baseball.
Brooks, our son, is 13 months old and a handful! He has the most beautiful blonde hair and big gorgeous blue eyes... He is the highlight of our lives! He is walking now and is into everything he can get his hands on. He loves animals, cars and trucks, and macaroni and cheese. We hope he will want to play baseball as he gets older... I think we would certainly be disappointed if he chose not to :) He's not a fan of naps but loves to have free reign of the house. His little laugh is intoxicating! He loves the beach but hates the waves, loves to eat but is very picky, and loves to read books but often tears them up. He absolutely hates the vacuum cleaner. The dog is his favorite thing in our house but she is not too fond of him.
Whiskey is our blonde cocker spaniel. I got Whiskey when I was a sophomore in college and she has been a loyal and faithful pet. We often joke that she's more like a cat than a dog because she is very tempermental and dictates when she would like to play. She'll bark at anything that walks by but if approached will pee all over herself :) She hates people she's never seen and will pretend to be the most vicious animal in the world, but would never bite. Her biggest test was the day we brought Brooks home from the hospital. Poor dog, her world hasn't been the same since. I think she feels as though Brooks has taken her place. :(
We have a very strong and loving family. Chris' parents, Joel and Linda Amos, live in Troy. His sister, Allison, and her family, husband Chris, Pinky and Zollise, live in Atlanta, GA. We often see them at the lake. Allison is expecting their first biological child in the Winter of 2009. My mother, Lynne, and sister and brother, Jay and Anna Bay McCord, live in Andalusia, AL. My brother Jay is and senior at Andalusia High School and my sister Anna Bay is a sophomore. Jay plays the drums in the band and plays tennis and my sister is a cheerleader. My dad and stepmother, Greg and Judy McCord, live in Opp, AL.
As you can see, we are a typical American family. We would like to add another baby to our family one day... but Brooks will have to be out of diapers before that will happen. For now, we are happy with our lives, whether typical or not.
